Under York #1

Wednesdays (and Tuesdays) are new comic book day! Each week hundreds of comics are released, and that can be pretty daunting to go over and choose what to buy. That’s where we come in

Each week our contributors choose what they can’t wait to read this week or just sounds interesting. In other words, this is what we’re looking forward to and think you should be taking a look at!

Find out what folks think below, and what comics you should be looking out for this week.

Batman: Dark Age #1 (DC Comics) – Mark Russell, Michael Allred, and Laura Allred team again but have moved on from Superman to Batman. We’re expecting great things considering the last time they worked together.

Duke #4 (Skybound) – Skybound’s Energon Universe is the best comic universe on the market right now and this series has shown what can be done with the 40 year old property G.I. Joe. It’s X-Files/conspiracy/paranoia/action has been amazing so far.

Feral #1 (Image Comics) – Meet Elsie, Lord Fluffy Britches, and Patch, three indoor cats lost in the not-so-great outdoors during a nightmarish rabies outbreak. Considering what Tony Fleecs and Trish Forstner did with Stray Dogs, we’re beyond excited to see what they do with this.

Fist of the North Star Vol. 12 (VIZ Media) – Loving the hardcover new edition releases of this classic series.

Ghostbusters: Back in Town #1 (Dark Horse) – We’re Ghostbusters fans so looking forward to seeing what this series that blends old and new is about.

The Goon: Them That Don’t Stay Dead #1 (Dark Horse/Albatross Funnybooks) – If you’ve never read The Goon, you’re missing out. Amazing art. Great stories. It’s always entertaining.

How War Begins (Fantagraphics) – In 2022, Igort, an acclaimed Italian cartoonist of Russian descent, began taking down the testimonies of Ukrainians during the Russian invasion. He turned them into online comics journalism, collected here for the first time in English.

Local Man: Bad Girls (Image Comics) – Tim Seeley and Tony Fleecs have been having fun with this series which is an homage, send up, and continuation of Image’s 90s superhero comics.

Sam and Twitch: Case Files #1 (Image Comics) – We’ve got fond memories of the classic series. We’re hoping this is just an ounce as good.

The Six Fingers #2 (Image Comics) – The companion comic to Red Hand, this one focuses on the killer!

Ultimate Spider-Man #3 (Marvel) – One of the best comics Marvel is putting out right now. The new Ultimate Universe has been solid and this series stands out.

Under York #1 (Image Comics) – . New York’s destiny is written in its depths… Alison Walker is a promising young painter in Manhattan. But she has a secret. She’s also a witch. She and her family belong to the world of Under York, a mysterious, underground New York where five powerful clans of witches have reigned for centuries.

X-Men ’97 #1 (Marvel) – Enjoying the animated series’ revival? Then don’t miss this comic series that bridges the gap between the previous release and the new one.
